Justice & Peace

In response to one of the main principles of Catholic social teaching, The Preferential Option For and With the Poor, the Justice & Peace Program of the Office of Public Policy and Social Concerns utilizes a network of individuals, organizations and resource providers to aid in educating, advocating, creating awareness and disseminating information on a wide breadth of social justice issues affecting our communities in an effort to raise the level of action and response. We seek to guide individuals by helping them understand the broader picture of causes and effects in order to work towards changing the unjust structures in our society.

In the attitude of silence the soul finds the path in an clearer light, and what is elusive and deceptive resolves itself into crystal clearness. Our life is a long and arduous quest after Truth.
Mahatma Gandhi (1869 - 1948)
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him. Will he gain anything by it? Will it restore him to a control over his own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to swaraj [freedom] for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away." Mahatma Gandhi
