With approval ratings plummeting, the demise of health care legislation (I believe we still need health care reform for the millions without any health care,) three major political losses (Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts), the almost superhuman aura that surrounded President Obama is gone. Even his most ardent supporters who screamed in joy at his inauguration are silent and sceptical. The extreme left of the Democratic Party is totally disgusted because he has not been the champion of ending war, forcefully supporting gay marriage and not as pro-abortion as many thought he would be. Thank God that the Messianic moment was brief.

No human being can sustain these expectations. The sausage machine that is Washington and the legislative process grinds on inexorably, making even a superstar like Obama fodder for its insane propensity to talk much and accomplish little. Is our democratic system broke? I don't think so. actually, our system, through multiple checks and balances, did its job.

So, even though, there is a large part of our nature that is still looking for the Saviour and we continue to overlay our hopes and expectations on the One who looks like they can be the ONE, we find that there is only one - Christ the Lord. We are reminded to put our hope in Him and not a falllible human being. By the way, Scott Brown isn't the Messiah either.

The President alone can not be blamed for the demise of the proposed health care legislation. The real problem here is the drawn out, bureaucratic system our country has to pass detrimental pieces of legislation. I believe the irony now is that Pelosi is scrambling to pass ANYTHING...a far cry from her original, staunch position that she claimed she would not budge from. Funny how people give in just to save face.

I am disheartened by the sarcasm about Obama, a man who is clearly trying to observe sound principles in his governing. Many (most???) of us wanted so much to rid ourselves of the Bush practices in the White House that we're hoping--sometimes against hope because of the self-centeredness of so many of our people--that our nation will support an honest, smart, and caring President.

Every Catholic should oppose all legislation by the Federal Govt. to interfere in Health Care in any way shape or form. Catholic social teaching on the principle of subsidiarity applies and in Health Care this principle means no higher organization may interfere in the Doctor-Patient relationship. Furthermore, the U.S. Constitution requires that any regulation of Health Care is reserved for the States.

Abortion is the opposite of health care and the opposite of reproduction. Dr. Bernard Nathanson, a now-repentant founder of NARAL, wrote two insightful books exposing the truth that abortion is harmful to women, besides being fatal to little innocent children. They're out of print, but worth looking for. And also there's the touching book by pro-life convert Norma McCorvey, the "Roe" of Roe v. Wade.

Honest? He tells the nation he's pro-life and abortion supporters he's pro-abortion. He says his health care plan does not cover abortion while he promises Planned Parenthood that it will. He says he's a Christian but he asks Notre Dame to cover up Christ's image for his TV appearance there. Is he a Christian, or does he want to use Christians?
