About CCHD Funding
1. The purpose and goal of the local CCHD grant process is to support the efforts of low-income individuals to actively change the economic, social and political structures which are the root-causes of and perpetuate poverty in our midst. Specifically, we aim to provide financial as well as leadership development and technical assistance to newly-developed or start-up organizations or projects wishing to increase their internal organizational capacity and strengthen their functions.

2. CCHD is committed to supporting groups of low-income individuals as they work to break the cycle of poverty and improve their communities. By helping the poor to participate in the decisions and actions that affect their lives, CCHD empowers them to move beyond poverty.

3. How CCHD Raises Funds for Grants (National Collection):
Grant Application Overview

1.All organizations that are interested in applying for a CCHD Community Organizing grant or an Economic Development implementation grant and who are not receiving that type of grant in the current grant year are required to submit an Eligibility Quiz. The Eligibility Quiz and instructions for completion and submission can be accessed through the following pages:
Community Organizing
Economic Development

2. Eligibility Quizzes are accepted on a rolling basis between September 1st and November 1st. Organizations are strongly encouraged to submit their quiz prior to the November 1st deadline. This will allow an eligible organization more time for completion of the online application.

3. CCHD requires that community organizing initiatives take a three-year break in funding after receiving six years of support in the last nine years. Please contact your Grants Specialist  to determine your eligibility for the 2009 grant cycle.

4. CCHD's Economic Development Program (EDP) maintains a three-year eligibility limit. CCHD will grant a maximum of three years support to an Economic Development Institution (EDI). These years need not be sequential. For more on EDIs, refer to the CCHD Application Help Guide and the EDP Web pages.

Types of Funding

CCHD’s Grant program is based on two types of funding. These two grant programs include Community Organizing Grants and Economic Development Grants

Community Organizing Grants
In organizing programs, people work together to address the needs of their community. Poor and marginalized people are empowered by joining together to make decisions, seeking solutions to local problems and finding ways to improve their lives and neighborhoods. These organizations assist individuals to develop as community leaders and to mobilize the community's resources.
